A meeting of the representatives of the agricultural blocs of Central and Western Macedonia is scheduled for next Saturday 10/2 at 19.30, in order to take decisions on the symbolic blockade of Greece’s borders with North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Albania.
In symbolic blocks of half an hourfrom one to one-thirty in the afternoon, farmers, breeders and beekeepers who have set up blockades at various key points of the Central Macedonia.
They themselves declare to APE-MPE that they will not back down even half a step in their basic claims, as they ask duty free oil, seven minutes/kWh on current, government subsidy on supplies and feed, revision of the Common Agricultural Policy, 100% refunds, replenishment of lost income in products and a brake on Greekisation.
Particularly, in a symbolic blockade of half an hour, the agricultural blockades proceeded at the junctions of Derveni, on the national road Thessaloniki – Kavala and Strymonikou on the Egnatia road Thessaloniki – Serres, but also in Malgara, Chalkidona, Giannitsa and other points in the prefectures of Imathia, Pella and Pieria, where the tractors have been lined up in recent days. It is emphasized that a similar mobilization is expected to take place tomorrow as well, as the participants in the blockades have already pre-decided.
At the node of Mudanionon the National Road of Thessaloniki – Moudania, the participants in the blockade do not intend to do any mobilization today. However, they have already pre-decided in their general assembly that they will carry out a two-hour blockade tomorrow from 18.00 on both streams. The situation is similar to the agricultural blockade that was set up at the Galatista intersection on the Thessaloniki-Polygyrou highway, where the farmers and breeders are leaving open the possibility of carrying out a three-hour blockade today from 19.00, as they did yesterday.
The climate at the level of rural mobilizations is similar in the rest of Greece, where roadblocks have been set up, following the decision taken yesterday in Nice, Larissa. In it, it is recalled that the farmers have decided to escalate their mobilizations and organize a Pan-Employment Rally in Athens, within the next week with tractors. Of course, they have announced that if the prime minister satisfies their demands by tomorrow, then they will stop their mobilizations.
In the meantime, for next Saturday 10/2 at 19.30, a meeting of the representatives of the agricultural blocs of Central and Western Macedonia is planned, in order to take decisions on the symbolic blockade of Greece’s borders with North Macedonia, Bulgaria and Albania. “Everything is open and if the Greek prime minister does not respond to what we are rightfully asking for in order to continue to exist in the primary sector, then it is possible that we will take a tougher stance”, notes the farmer of Paionia, Thomas Karypidis and adds: “we are fighting for our survival” .
They entered Egnatia
At the beginning of Egnatia Road, at the 1st kilometer outside the port of Igoumenitsa, the farmers of Thesprotia lined up tractors, trucks and farm cars.
The police prevented them from passing, but they breached the blockade and entered Egnatia in both streams, while they left open the possibility of later blocking the highway and the port exit.
The farmers gathered from 11:00 in the morning and crossed the entire town. The motorized march, which lasted about an hour, ended at the port where all their vehicles were lined up on the road.
They are livestock breeders, beekeepers and producers of the prefecture of Thesprotia, who are asking for measures to reduce production costs, minimum guaranteed prices, compensation from natural or other disasters.
The same time farmers of Aitoloakarnania at the height of Agrini proceeded to a symbolic blockade of the Antirrio – Ioannina highway.
