The farmers in Evia are also adamant about their demands, co-deciding during the meeting in Larissa, escalation of their mobilizations with simultaneous blockades of national roads and customs from today.

At the same time, they are preparing to reach Athens with tractors in order to “be present” at the protest actions in the capital.

Among other things, they are asking for tax-free agricultural oil for 7 cents per kilowatt-hour of electricity, for supplies and animal feed to be subsidized, for the new CAP not to be implemented and for negotiations to take place again, for 100% compensation and for the lost income in products to be compensated.
In addition, they demand that the illegal Hellenizations be stopped.

Agricultural Associations of the island will participate in the Panevvoian Agricultural Assembly, on Thursday, February 8, which will culminate with a gathering at 12 noon of the same day, at the Headquarters of the Regional Unit of Evia, in Chalkida.

The farmers of Evia, like the rest of Greece, claim:

At the same time, tomorrow farmers from all over the island will take to the streets of their village squares to protest.

As emphasized in a relevant announcement by the Agricultural and Livestock Associations and Cooperatives of Evia, farmers fight for survival, to stay in the fields, in their crops and in their livestock.

The announcement

Fellow farmers, breeders, beekeepers

These days all over the country, even in many European countries, farmers are on the streets for our survival.

We are all meteoric about what we will do this year with our fields, with our livestock. We see that the case is not working, the production costs are huge, the feed is very expensive, the costs are increasing from everywhere, the selling price of our products is humiliating. We work sun by sun, in the rain, in the snow, in the sleet and we don’t know what the bill will be in the end. We feel the effects of government policy every day on our skin.

Real support measures must now be taken for all of us, not candy and banana peels.

It is worth noting that the issues that have arisen as well as their requests were communicated by farmers, breeders and beekeepers from central and northern Evia to the Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Dionysis Stamenitis.

The requests

A solution to the ten-year ban on grazing. Reinforcement of livestock farmers with animal feed.

To give bee food to beekeepers. Immediate support measures.

To be compensated like the Thessalians for Elia – Daniel. Their applications are rejected, while it was a commitment of the prime minister.

Construction of rural and forest roads.

Replenishment of lost incomes of olive producers due to this year’s crop failure

To compensate the olive producers for the trees that burned on the 21st.

Flood shielding of rivers and cleaning of culverts. Compensation of machinery from Thalia. If not given by August, it will be lost.

The government side

The Deputy Minister did not give a specific timetable for the compensations pending after the fire.

Regarding animal feed midweek he will meet with Chr. Triandopoulos and will raise the issue with him while he stressed that in mid-February advances will be given for the olive trees.

He also highlighted the new support measures announced by the prime minister.

Support measures

A refund of the Special Consumption Tax for agricultural oil and a 10% discount on rural electricity for a certain period of time was announced – among other things – by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, answering a topical question from Alexis Haritsis on “Prime Minister’s Hour” four days ago.

The prime minister during his installation announced six measures for farmers and the reduction of energy costs.

– Return of the Special Consumption Tax on agricultural oil for 2024 as well. The measure of the return of the Excise Tax was activated by the government for the years 2022 and 2023 as well.

– PPC has decided and will offer an additional 10% discount on rural electricity from May to September (months of high rural consumption).

– Settlement of the debts to the PPC of the Local and General Organizations of Vascular Improvements (TOEB, GOEB), which currently reach 87 million euros. In Thessaly, the OEB will be abolished and the relevant activities will be integrated into the new Water Organization of Thessaly, with the state assuming 75% of the debt of the Thessaly OEB (8 million euros). In the rest of Greece, the remaining (76 million) debts will be settled with a ten-year repayment and zero interest rate which will be subsidized by the state.

– In the context of addressing the increased energy costs of farmers, the government will ensure to farmers participating in cooperative schemes (cooperatives, organizations and groups of producers, etc.) and to farmers practicing contract farming, a medium-term cost reduction of at least of 30% over today’s prices for a decade. To this end, it will prioritize and subsidize the construction of photovoltaic battery parks that will be available exclusively to these categories of farmers in the form of long-term bilateral contracts for the supply of electricity. These bilateral contracts, similar to those made with industry, will be implemented within two years of the implementation of the measure.

– For individual farmers, a new Program exclusively for Farmers entitled “Photovoltaics in the Field”, amounting to 30 million euros, will be launched immediately. At the same time, the “locked” electrical space available as a priority to farmers per DEDDIE substation is immediately increased from 3MW to 6MW (6MW X 225 substations in the country = 1350MW), while the permitted limit for PV for farmers with priority access to ” “locked” space from 10kW to 50kW.

– Apollo Program, the largest energy offsetting program with green energy in the Country. Through tenders we will select mature renewable energy projects, which will be ready within two years. The energy that we will supply from these projects will be intended to cover part of the energy needs of our vulnerable fellow citizens, the OTAs A’ and B’ degree, the DEYAs but also, here I want to stop, the Local and General Organizations of Sanitary Improvements. That is, through the Apollo Program, TOEB and GOEB will have a significant, and permanent, relief from the energy costs that prevent the fulfillment of their key mission but also hinder their development dynamics.

The farmers are adamant

In any case, the farmers throughout the country, declare that they are determined to continue their mobilizations until their demands are essentially satisfied, not intending to compromise with possible “middle solutions”.
