The customs auditors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority, with the contribution of the Narcotics Enforcement Department of the Attica Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Attica Narcotics Enforcement Sub-Directorate achieved yet another success in the fight against smuggling.

In particular, after conducting a local risk analysis, a suspicious container of bananas originating from Ecuador and destined for Piraeus was seized by the 3rd Customs of Piraeus.

An x-ray check followed, where a suspicious organic substance was detected in the container’s refrigeration equipment, which was also confirmed by the positive indication of the “ICE” drug detection dog.

During the physical control, 46 packages with a significant amount of narcotic substance (cocaine), with a gross weight of fifty-five kilograms and five hundred and ninety-one grams (55.591 Kg) were identified, which were confiscated.

The value of the aforementioned quantity of cocaine is estimated at €2,800,000.
