It is known that it helps a lot with gut health and offers valuable benefits to your body. According to the experts, it offers vitamin A, C, B1, and trace elements such as magnesium, zinc and calcium.

What is artichoke water?

Artichoke water is a liquid usually made from whole artichokes, including the leaves, stem, heart and flower. You can make your own at home, but you can also find bottled artichoke water at some health food stores.

Furthermore, it has been characterized as a tasty and beneficial drink, from removing toxins to improving digestion, while providing rich nutrients.

Although considered a global trend, artichoke tea (basically, hot artichoke water) is a staple in countries like Vietnam. In Vietnam, artichoke tea is called tra atiso and is made from the leaves, stems, roots and flowers of the artichoke to help with headaches, diabetes and other ailments.

What are the benefits of drinking artichoke water?

Artichoke water is a great way to boost your immune system as it contains plenty of vitamin C and antioxidants. It can also help relieve stress, anxiety and also contains magnesium, zinc and potassium. It also significantly helps to reduce cholesterol levels, although various studies have shown that this happens when you consume capsules with artichoke extract.

However, regular consumption of artichoke water can help reduce cholesterol levels. Some possible benefits of drinking artichoke water are as follows:

  • It reduces the levels of LDL, the “bad” cholesterol
  • It protects the liver from toxins and helps produce bile
  • Rich in antioxidants
  • It can help promote digestion
  • Effective diuretic
  • Antiaging effects on the skin

However, you should take these potential benefits with a grain of salt, as there isn’t enough evidence yet about the benefits of drinking artichoke water. While there is plenty of evidence that artichokes are a highly nutritious food, the same properties may or may not apply. Not all the same properties of artichoke could be extracted in artichoke water, as not all nutrients are water soluble.

Does artichoke water help with bloating?

Artichoke water has anti-bloating properties, which is why the French have included it in their diet. Cynarin extract from artichokes helps with bloating by stimulating the production of bile, which helps your gut digest fats and absorb vitamins from others. Two of the antioxidants found in artichokes (cynarin and silymarin) have been linked to improving liver function, specifically improving the liver’s detoxifying properties. Removing these toxins can also help relieve bloating.

Who should avoid artichoke water?

According to experts, it can help with bloating, but it can also cause bloating or gastrointestinal distress in some people. Anyone who experiences gas or bloating with vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower or Brussels sprouts should probably avoid artichokes, as they are likely to cause similar symptoms.

Also, if you have constipation or a lack of fiber, then avoid artichoke water and eat a regular artichoke instead, because otherwise you won’t get the fiber you need from drinking the water.
