In the specialization of the measures relief to farmers for electricity which announced Kyriakos Mitsotakis carried out by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

Government measures move along two main axes. Rural electricity low price program in the form of bilateral long-term contracts and debt settlement for rural electricity connection holders with arrears payable in a decade and zero interest.

Detailed measures announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

1. With the start of pricing from April 1st, a program of low prices for rural electricity begins in the form of bilateral long-term contracts.

The program can be offered by all electricity providers and all owners of rural electricity connections can participate in it. The terms of the program are as follows:

Price estimates: For the first 2 years with pricing starting on 1.4.2024, the prices are fixed and set (maximum) as follows:

  • Rural electricity connection holders belonging to cooperative schemes or practicing contract farming without arrears: 9.3 cents per kilowatt hour
  • Other non-arrears rural electricity connection holders: 9.8 cents per kilowatt hour
  • Owners of rural electricity connections belonging to cooperative schemes or practicing contract farming with overdue debts: 10.5 cents per kilowatt hour
  • Other rural electricity connection holders with overdue debts: 11 cents per kilowatt hour

These prices refer to the total consumption of the specific benefits.

For the remaining 8 years for 1/3 of the consumption of the specific benefits the price is uniform and is set at 9 cents per kilowatt hour.

For the remaining consumption (2/3) the owners of rural electricity connections have no obligation and can freely purchase it from the market (free from the same or the other provider). The relevant contracts are fixed with a single withdrawal clause of 70 euros.

Providers participating in the program will receive terms of connection for the specific Renewable Energy projects that will support the program as an absolute priority. This program replaces the program of long-term bilateral contracts for cooperative schemes and contract farming that was announced by the Ministry of Environment and Energy.

2. Rural electricity connection holders with overdue debts can settle their debts to electricity providers with repayment in a decade and zero interest. The relevant financial costs are borne by the state with funding from the Energy Transition Fund.

Cheaper electricity for all farmers for 2+8 years

Earlier, cheaper electricity for all farmers for the next 2+8 years, the Prime Minister announced during the meeting with the representatives of the Panhellenic Block Committee, at Megaros Maximos.

The proposal, which ensures very low prices in the rural stream, estimated to form KW in the first 2 years under 10 minutes for farmers who participate in cooperative schemes or are consistent and below 11 minutes for those who have overdue debts, settling their debts at the same time.

For the next 8 years for a third of the consumption the estimated price will be uniform at 9 centsthus allowing all farmers to do their planning over a decade.

According to government sources, this move by the government, which follows the measures already announced to reduce the agricultural currentwill be financed primarily by the Energy Transition Fund.
