With regard to not providing information to the public, especially vulnerable groups, about the need to take self-protection attributed to the then regional governor, the Prosecutor said that additionally, as defined by the prefecture for self-government bodies, the Region had taken the required actions through messages to the media, information signs on the streets, etc.
Regarding the convening of the Civil Protection Coordinating Body, the public prosecutor emphasized that the regional governor, although there was no valid information from the Fire Department, had called a fire brigade when she received information from the house about the situation after 7.00 in the afternoon of that day.
For the non-decision on organized removal of citizens, the prosecutor emphasized that since there was no recommendation from the Fire Department, the competent bodies of the Region were deprived of the responsibility of making a recommendation. It wasn’t her fault. It is irrelevant to the Region. It would be contra legem to order an organized removal without prior recommendation of the Fire Service.
End, regarding the matter of not declaring the area a state of emergency, Mr. Maniatis emphasized that this action concerns the next year of the disaster and that in any case the declaration or not has absolutely no contribution to the final result.
Earlier, the Prosecutor also requested her dismissal of the then General Secretary of Civil Protection Ioannis Kapakis.
