“Warm-blooded” citizens should be more careful from now on in hospitals and other health structures.

In the bill of the Ministry of Justice that is voted today by the plenary session, an article has been included that states that “whoever enters health service provision structures, including mobile health service provision units or approaches mobile first aid health service provision units and in any way, in particular by shouting, noise, insults or threats against medical and nursing staff, workers, employees or of patients disrupts their functioning, shall be punished with a prison sentence of at least one (1) year and a monetary penalty and if the act is connected with inciting violence, with a prison sentence of at least two (2) years and a monetary penalty”.

Those who enter from now on should be equally careful in an area of primary or secondary education and in any way, especially with shouting, noise, insults or threats against the educational staff, employees, employees or students disrupt its operation, because they will be faced with the same penalties.

The Minister of Justice referred to this provision George Floridisin his intervention earlier in the plenary. “March 12 is the European day against violence against doctors and nurses. I did not know. I was informed today by a doctor who called me on the phone to invite me to an event in Thessaloniki that will be dedicated to this day. Why did they remember to call me? Because in the bill, for the first time, there is a provision that protects the doctors, nurses and rescuers of the EKAB, from the violence that is used against them, when they perform their duties”, said the Minister of Justice and added:

“We hear criticism (including from the opposition parties) that we legislate based on a popular sentiment. No. We legislate based on real needs. I imagine professors and teachers will call us. Because for the first time we are legislating and creating criminal offenses for those who commit acts of violence against them. This is not criminal populism. It is a genuine response to existing problems of the Greek people and social groups that act for the good of society as a whole”.
