Following the French government’s decision to end the green bonus for self-driving cars, Uber has announced an extraordinary €5m boost to compensate its drivers.
This aid aims to compensate for the loss of the 3,000 euro bonus that EIX drivers were entitled to.
As public authorities and various industries slow down their efforts on electrification, Uber continues to support drivers and the transition to electric vehicles, both in France and in the European countries where it operates.
Uber is taking immediate steps to maintain and accelerate the pace of the transition to electric mobility by offering incentives to drivers. On the occasion of the discontinuation of the eco-bonus in France, which may have a dissuasive effect on the transition to electric vehicles for legal entities and discourage drivers, the company will offer financial assistance to EV drivers.
It is noted that Uber already gives about 4,500 euros to drivers for the acquisition of an electric vehicle within the framework of the Plan for Electric Mobility.
Laureline Serieys, General Manager of Uber in France, explains: “Stopping the eco-bonus for legal entities deprives half of the HGV drivers of this help. However, drivers, traveling an average of 250 km per day, contribute to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and a more ethical transition. While public authorities are slowing their efforts, we are reasserting our leadership role in the transition to electric vehicles. We call on everyone to mobilize in order not to leave EIX drivers on the sidelines.”
Achieving these ambitious goals requires the mobilization of not only private entities but also public authorities. It is clear that government support plans for VTC drivers, a profession at the forefront of the electric transition in the transport sector, are being scaled back. However, going 100% electric by 2030 in Europe and 100% is Uber’s commitment.
About Uber
Uber’s goal is to create opportunities through movement.
“We started in 2010 to solve a simple problem: How can you access a taxi at the touch of a button on your mobile phone? After more than 47 billion journeys, we continue to create products to bring people closer to where they want to be. By changing the way people, food and things move around cities, Uber is a platform that opens up new possibilities for the world,” the company says.
