Seven centuries-old olives from Achaia were transplanted in the Municipality of Alimos – See photos

by

Seven olives, which for centuries “lived” in the land of Achaia, will continue their centuries-old life in Alimos. These are trees that were forced to be uprooted due to the railway works that are being done in the area of Akrata, but ERGOSE did not want to cut them down and destroy them. Always before uprooting age-old trees, he calls on the municipalities, especially in the urban areas, to respond to their transplantation.

It is a general initiative of ERGOSE and a transplant program that it activates when its works for the routes of the Greek railways “fall” on age-old trees, which should not be lost.

The Municipality of Alimos was one of those who responded to the call, the municipal authority found the appropriate places and so ERGOSE brought them to Attica to be transplanted. The largest weighs four tons.

The common areas where the seven centuries-old olive trees were planted are Panagouli Square (Mavromichali & Trikoupi), Independence Square, Eleftheriou Venizelou Street (at the height of the 2nd Lyceum), OT 351 (Mandilara-Ypsilandou-Knosia beach) opposite A ‘beach and Eptanisou and Kavvadia streets.

In the immediate future, the action of the Municipality of Alimos will continue with the planting of 100 new olive trees in the grove of the city, but also with the planting in selected locations of additional age-old large olive trees.
