Response to the criticism made to the Prosecutor’s Office and the social services of the Municipality, from the First program of ERT, by the Minister of Social Solidarity, Domna Michailidou regarding the case of 7-year-old Andreasgives with a Press Release issued by the Head of the Prosecutor’s Office of First Instance Sotiria Papageorgakopoulou.

The Press Release of the director of the Prosecutor’s Office states the following:

“Regarding the public criticism of a Government Minister against the Athens Prosecutor’s Office regarding the existence of its responsibilities for the untimely removal from the environment where the murdered 7-year-old boy lived in Kypseli, we make the following known:

1. The Athens Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office performed its duty to the fullest, timely and effectively, when in 2018 there was a complaint of abuse of the unfortunate child’s sister, which with direct actions of our Service (social investigation, removal of custody from her mother, etc.) was removed from the environment in which she lived and followed the process of integration and hospitality in a suitable structure for this purpose.

2. No report-complaint about the unfortunate boy (from police, welfare or other Authority, institution or individual) did not exist at the time the case was handled by our Service, as the child had already been killed earlier and was brought to live with his father in Poland.

3. After that, the exercise of public criticism in the work of the Judiciary, as a separate function of the State – from the representatives of its other powers – should be based on their secure information and should not be uttered with insufficient knowledge of the actions of its respective competent bodies. .

What Domna Michailidou said

Speaking at the First Program 91.6 and 105.8, Ms. Michailidou noted that, since the competent authorities knew that there was abusive behavior against a child and therefore there was a suspicion that this abusive behavior would exist to the detriment of another child, they had to look for the other child and move him away from his biological family.

[…] “In the case of the 7-year-old child from the moment there was the prosecutor’s decision that transferred the child, his sister, from her biological family to a child protection institution and then to a foster family, what we expected from both the prosecutor’s office and The social services of the municipality are to do the same or to look for what will be done for the girl’s brother “, underlined Ms. Michailidou.

It was the duty of both the prosecutor’s office and the social services of the municipality to find out what was happening with the other child, he added. “What happened, whether the parents’ excuse that the child was in Poland is something that the social services of the municipality searched for and could not find any evidence that it really was, is something I do not know.”
