Twenty-six people were arrested today (February 26, 2024) in Rhodes for provocation and participation in incidents related to a football match, SUPERLEAGUE 2 category.

These are persons between the ages of 17 and 47.

A case was filed against the perpetrators for violation of sports laws [«Αδικήματα βίας με αφορμή αθλητικές εκδηλώσεις ή αθλητικό υπόβαθρο» & «Ερασιτεχνικός και επαγγελματικός αθλητισμός»]using a weapon and committing damage.

In addition, two more people have been identified for their involvement in the incidents.

In particular, yesterday evening before the start and after the end of the football match, groups of fans got into a prolonged confrontation inside and outside the stadium where it took place, hurling objects such as stones, pipes, iron rods and marbles and Molotov cocktails at each other.

To deal with and de-escalate the incidents, a police platoon immediately intervened and the absolutely necessary appropriate means were used.

A police operation followed during which those arrested last night and this morning were brought to the Rhodes Security Directorate, which was charged with preliminary investigation of the case.

The arrested persons were taken today to the First Instance Prosecutor’s Office of Rhodes, while the investigation continues to identify others involved in the incidents.
