“The most difficult moment was when the relatives started to arrive at the scene,” recalled SKAI reporter Panos Garoufalias today.
Today marks one year since the tragic accident in Tempewhere 57 people lost their lives.
The SKAI reporter Panos Garoufalias, at one in the morning on February 28, 2023, was the first to arrive at the scene of the tragedy and described the first moments on the show Mismatched.
“I find it hard to believe that in these battered wagons and shapeless masses of hardware there are living people” he said when he saw the image of the trains.
“We had information about dead people, but we couldn’t stream them yet as they weren’t crossed. We started and counted who would come out dead and who would come out alive. The people we saw could not describe from the shock what they saw before their eyes” reported today.
“After two hours of continuously transmitting, we changed the point, went up to the bridge, we went to the balcony and there the magnitude of the tragedy was seen, we saw both trains, how the wagons had derailed, there we saw all the evil in front of us. The most difficult moment was when relatives started arriving at the scene” he recalled himself.
