A day of sadness and remembrance for our country. Today marks one year since Tragedy with many deaths in Tempe. At ground zero where it all happened a trisag was held in memory of the 57 victims and when the hands of the clock struck 10.00, bells in every corner of the country tolled mournfully 57 times, one for each victim of the accident.

The relatives of the 57 victims of the biggest railway tragedy join their voices. Other people are on their side. A little further, the mother of 23-year-old Deni Routsi, one of the 57 victims of the unspeakable tragedy in Tempi, who was on the day of the “black” anniversary at ground zero to honor the memory of her son and ask for justice once again.
“We will fight it to the end. If we do not find justification here, we will find it elsewhere. The killing of our children is unforgivable, a premeditated murder. The guilty will be punished either in Greece or abroad,” she told reporters visibly moved.
“One year we think it’s a lie, every night we go to bed and believe that in the morning when we wake up everything will be fine. It never happened, on the contrary, we had enough of lies from those responsible…”, says the victim’s father.
The memorial for the 57 victims of Tempe at the point of the collision of the two trains was held in intense emotional charge making even the priest who read the names of the people who lost their lives to bend before the unspeakable tragedy and burst into sobs.

Earlier the route was split in two: one section reached Syntagma and the second reached the offices of Hellenic Train, at the beginning of Syngrou Avenue. The gathered people stayed there for a while and then left.

Thessaloniki: In the OSE the course for Tempi
A grand demonstration for the first anniversary of the national railway tragedy in Tempi in 2023 was also held in the center of Thessaloniki.
Thousands of protestors, labor unions, students, schoolchildren, young women took to the streets of the city one year after the tragedy in Tempe. The march started from Egnatia at the height of the statue of Venizelos and reached OSE.

A protest rally was held in Heraklion’s Freedom Square on the occasion of the 24-hour strike declared by ADEDY and other workers’ federations. Workers in the public sector and, among others, private employees, builders, retired students and also students took part in the mobilization, who reiterated the request not to cover up the tragedy of Tempe on the anniversary of the tragic accident.
Also, among the requests they made were salary increase, the restoration of gifts, collective agreements, but also staffing with permanent staff in critical public institutions such as health and education. Those gathered at this time are carrying out a protest march in the main streets of Heraklion.

The march ended via Leonidou Street at the Lamia Railway Station, after being joined by tractors and farm vehicles that supported the strike of unions and labor centers. The meeting ended at 14:00 in the afternoon.
