At least 20,000 people participated today, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in successive gatherings, in various places in the center of Athens, namely in the Propylaia, in Klathmonos Square and in Hautia, in the context of the declared 24-hour General Strike to mark the anniversary of the railway accident in Tempe and after a call from various Federations, Associations, Clubs, Organizations and Associations according to the police.

According to a related announcement, a group of people with their features covered separated and integrated into the main body of people who had remained from the march and carrying Molotov cocktails and other objects, launched an attack on the police forces in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

So far, the Sub-Directorate of State Security, which handles the preliminary investigation of the case, arrested (8) people and brought another (15).

Four of those arrested were arrested on Sina Street as when they were called for control by the ACTION Team before the start of the march, they tried to escape but were stopped and in the backpacks they were carrying, -7- Molotov cocktails were found, including explosives, as well as clothing used to cover their features (full face hoods and gloves).

In addition, -2- of those arrested, were immobilized by Policemen of the Attica Police Operations Directorate near Kaningos Square during their attempt to escape after attacks they demonstrated towards the platoons.

As a result of the events (2) police officers were injured and there was damage to public equipment of the forces.

In particular, as reported by the police, approximately 14,000 people gathered on the axis of the Propylaia, formed on the road of the University and at approximately 12:00 after noon they started a march, moving through the streets of the University, Syntagma Square, Amalia Avenue, Syngrou Avenue with their final destination company offices on Petmeza Street in Kallithea. The bulk of those gathered remained on Syngrou Avenue, where around 13:45 they gradually left.

At the height of Klathmonos Square on Stadiou Street, a gathering of approximately 4,000 people took place, who marched shortly after 12:00 through Othonos and reached Amalias Avenue on Syntagma Square, where part of them remained at the spot, while the rest left for Panepistimi Street.

Subsequently, at 13:20 in Hauteia, 2,000 gathered people started from Stadiou Street and passing through the junction of Othonos Street with Amalias Avenue at 14:05, a group of people with their features covered was detached and integrated into the main volume of people who had remained from the march that started from Klathmonos Square and carrying Molotov cocktails and other objects, launched an attack on the police forces in front of the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.

The police forces pushed them away and the people in question dispersed towards Omonia, once again launching successive attacks by throwing Molotov cocktails and other objects against the police in the nearby narrow streets where they ended up.

During their passage to the above points, they tried to cause damage to public and private infrastructures, which the squads prevented by acting immediately with tactical movements.
