February 28, 2023… The night time stopped. The night Greece plunged into mourning for the 57 souls lost in the train tragedy, in Tempi. The night the phrase “pick me up when you get there” became a watchword to prevent further tragedies. A whole year has passed since that fateful day. There are still too many unanswered questions. The biggest one, however, concerns the explosion, this “mushroom” that was “launched” into the sky immediately after the collision of the two trains.

What caused this big bang? Were there any flammable substances that may have caused the “fiery mushroom” and the ensuing fire that killed dozens of people?

Relatives of the victims have focused on exactly this point in the investigation, entrusting experts to search for evidence, through which new evidence may be discovered.

The experts speak to SKAI and reveal what they have found so far.

“As to what kind of fuel led to the 6.5-second fire we don’t have any information. Or at least some that we can file,” they say.

However, what the researchers found were traces of a flammable chemical solvent used in the manufacture of paints, but also in fuel adulteration.

“The xylene is one of the elements found in traces. And I emphasize traces. It is not that the area was watered. Do not forget that the samples were taken after many weeks and months”, adds the expert.

There are many questions that arise:

1. The mystery of the explosion and the alteration of space:
– were there any undeclared cargo or illegal substances?
– the bills of lading listed foil, beer and food as cargo

2. Were mistakes made during the accident investigation?
– No committee was established, no protocols were implemented
– in 6 days the place was cleaned

Investigation into possible flammable materials ‘expands’ – Samples in Canada and England

In her microscope prosecutorial investigation for tragedy in Tempe the possibility of a flammable substance remains in a carriage of the commercial train. The Minister of Justice also spoke about this issue in his televised appearance.

“Investigators have been ordered to proceed with the investigation of the matters concerning the existence or not of any flammable materials to see what happens with some videos that exist and this means that this material will likely be sent to labs in Canada and England so that we have an indisputable certification of what has happened. Of what exists or does not exist. As well the assistance of NTUA in the field of expertise may also be needed»he said characteristically.

According to a SKAI report, the investigation has not yet been completed. There are 32 accused in addition to the station master who is in jail where his supervisor is also. Among the defendants are high-ranking officials of the OSE who at times had powers to control the railway line and who is in control when a train passes. Many of the relatives of the victims with the help of a technical consultant say that the accident was not only the collision of the trains, but that it was more of a fire that led to so many deaths, which may have been caused by something that this train was carrying. They refer to this as the expert they appointed said residues of some substance were found and it needs to be tested.

According to the report the prosecutor of the Supreme Court yesterday sent a new order to the appeals prosecutor’s office of Larisa and said everything should be looked into in the interrogation. “Nothing unanswered.”

Meanwhile, the minister of justice in his televised statements as well as according to a SKAI report said that the information he has from the judicial authorities is that this investigation into whether the train was carrying any flammable substance must be done and even pledged that the relevant expertise will go to a specialized laboratory in Canada to say the last word about what the train was carrying. He also stated that other samples of those collected will be sent to a similar laboratory abroad in order to fully clarify the issue.
