It is recommended to continue abstaining from the affairs of banks and funds
The suspension of the abstention from criminal trials, and the continuation of the abstention from the cases of banks and funds, is proposed to the 63 bar associations of the country by the Plenary of the presidents of the Bar Associations of Greece.
The board of directors of the local bar associations will decide on the proposal.
According to a statement, the plenary session, taking into account the fact of the passing of the relevant bill at the time of the implementation of its provisions, decided:
- To propose to the country’s Bar Associations the suspension of their members’ abstention from criminal trials.
- To organize events at the headquarters of each bar association, in which all professional bodies and the local community will be invited to participate, in order to highlight the problems that are going to emerge from the implementation of the new provisions.
At the same time, the plenary adheres to its decision from 23.2.2024 to refrain from issuing payment orders and enforcement actions of banks and Receivables Management Companies (Funds) until 31.3.2024.
At the same time, the plenary session “expresses once again its opposition to the provisions of the new Criminal Code and Code of Criminal Procedure, which obey the cries of criminal populism and are a setback for criminal law” and adds that “the application of these provisions will create relentless results, which will soon find Greek society facing them”.
