In the shelter of Arcturus, in Agrapides, Florina, there are now two wolverines that were captured by private individuals in Ukraine and abandoned at the start of the war.

Specifically, the Dora4 years old, raised in captivity near private individuals in the city Zhytomyr (Zhytomyr) in Ukraine but was left alone in one cage when its owners left the country because of the war. For a while, the locals fed her sporadically — once every three days or so. The evacuation was dangerous due to the abundance of landmines in the area, but the Wild Animal Rescue organization eventually managed to rescue her and when she underwent medical tests, she was found to have rickets in her hind legs.

The other high school, the Venuswho is about 9 months old, was found in his area Kiev and as animal welfare organizations estimate, she was probably bought as a young puppy by owners who mistook her for a domesticated dog. However, as she grew older and began to act like the wild wolf that she is, the owners abandoned her care in the midst of the war.

According to Arcturos, through the online meetings on the topic of animals in Ukraine that have been held since the start of the war with the EARS (European Alliance of Rescue centers and Sanctuaries) network, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) came into contact with them ) as he was aware of the problem of the two wolves and eventually financed their transport.

The animals were transported by the Wild Animal Rescue organization from Kiev to the Polish-Ukraine border and from there they were picked up for their final destination in Greece.

Upon arrival, the wolves were placed in separate enclosures so that the Arcturus team could monitor their behavior while they were alone.

Dora and Venus will soon join a pack of other wolves or create a new pack of their own in the sanctuary that closely resembles their natural habitat.
