Kostas Skrekas: “We are not complacent, the battle against profiteering is ongoing”
A fine of 742,000 eurosto a frozen vegetable company due to profiteering was imposed by a decision of the Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas.
Specifically the fine was imposed on the frozen vegetable company “AINOS SA”for violation of article 54 of Law 5045/29-07-2023 regarding the reduction of unfair profit-making phenomena, following checks carried out by the Inter-Service Market Control Unit (DIMEA).
The violation was found after performing close checks on 72 product codes (1/7/2023 to 30/9/2023). The company as it turned out in 50 codes it obtained a higher gross profit margin than that defined by the relevant legislation.
The Minister of Development, Kostas Skrekas, said in this regard: “The battle to combat accuracy and the phenomena of profiteering is continuous and daily. Controls are permanent, they will be intensified and, where provided by law, stiff fines will be imposed. We are not complacent until there is order and prosperity throughout the market. Cracking down on any illegal activity and protecting consumers is our obligation. The only criterion of the government and the Ministry of Development is the implementation of the law and the support of households affected by inflation.”
