Strawberry … “heavy-heavy” takes place in the Guinness Book – See pictures

Israeli farmer Chahi Ariel has grown the heaviest strawberry in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

Weighing 289 grams, the strawberry is five times the average weight of a normal strawberry of the local Ilan variety, said Nir Dai, a researcher at the Volcanic Institute of Israel, where the strain was grown.

The strawberry is 18 cm long and 34 cm in circumference, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ariel was hoping to win a place in the record books when he saw how much fruit he had grown on his family farm last year. He was awaiting confirmation that it was a record, while keeping the huge strawberry in the freezer as proof.

“It simply came to our notice then. “I got in the car, laughing and singing,” Ariel described, proudly displaying his certificate. “We have been waiting for this for a long time.”

The previous record was set by a Japanese farmer, who discovered a strawberry weighing 250 grams in his crop in 2015.
