An incredible case unfolded in Igoumenitsa with the arrest of a narcotics police officer who transported 102 kg of cannabis in the official vehicle.

His fellow officers, who had information about the “cargo” the patrol car was carrying, signaled him to stop, which he did not do, and a chase ensued.

The patrol car came to a stop when the driver lost control and crashed into three parked cars causing material damage.

According to SKAI journalist Theodosis Panou, the driver of the vehicle was a 41-year-old Chief Constable who serves in the Narcotics Prosecution Department of Igoumenitsa and his co-passenger was an Albanian of the same age. After the relevant control, 19 packages of raw cannabis with a total weight of 102 kg and 670 grams were found inside the official vehicle.

At the time of his arrest, the 41-year-old man was on patrol duty together with a 50-year-old chief constable, who also serves in the Prosecution and he was also arrested.

At the time of the operation, the 50-year-old – who was normally on duty – was in a cafe in the area of ​​Sayada, Thesprotia, having even left his service pistol in the car in which his colleague was dealing drugs.

More than 102 kilograms of cannabis were found in an official vehicle driven by a police officer with a private passenger.

Two police officers and a private foreigner were arrested in the early hours of today (15-03-2024) by police officers of the Narcotics Prosecution Department of the Igoumenitsa Security Sub-Directorate, accused of violating the drug legislation.

In particular, as part of an operation by the above service, one police officer was spotted driving a conventional official vehicle with a private passenger as a passenger and a stop signal was issued to carry out an inspection.

The driver, however, continued on his way through the city of Igoumenitsa, disobeying the light and sound signals of the police and after a while he stopped due to a traffic accident.

In the control that followed inside the vehicle, -19- packages of raw cannabis weighing -102- kilograms and -670- grams were found and confiscated.

In fact, the police driver was on night patrol duty, while it was found that his companion, who was also arrested after informing the competent Prosecutor, was in a different place in Thesprotia, having left his service pistol in the vehicle.

The traffic accident caused material damage to -3- parked vehicles and the official vehicle.
