The president of the Association of Employees at Agios Nikolaou Hospital refers to the dramatic shortages in the public health units in Lasithi
An important dimension of the tragedy with the 33-year-old Manoli Kritsotakiswho was fatally injured by a flare on Sunday night in Agios Nikolaos, points out the president of the Association of Employees at the Agios Nikolaos Hospital Giorgos Manousakis.
In his post, Mr. Manousakis refers to the dramatic shortages in all public health units in Lasithi.
Caused by the fact that, as Cretalive wrote, in the hospital where the 33-year-old was taken there was no surgeon on duty but only an anesthesiologist, as a result of which the director of the surgery clinic came from his home and together with the gynecologists on duty they tried to save this man’s life but they did not succeed as he died from uncontrollable bleeding.
Characteristically, Mr. Manousakis writes:
“Today is Clean Monday 2024 in no hospital in Lasithi prefecture has the radiology and anesthesia department on duty.
Yesterday when the unfortunate incident happened with our fellow citizen who lost his life, there was no General Surgeon on duty at the Agios Nikolaos hospital and the director of the surgery clinic came from his home to try to save the life of the unfortunate young man, as had happened a month and a half ago at the Ierapetra hospital with the motocross accident.
How long will we tolerate that there is not an adequately staffed public health system, and that the volunteerism and honorarium of health workers are constantly required?”
