As he pointed out, this is an incident that happened approx a month and a half ago (that is, it had nothing to do with the information that it happened recently, before the ELAS intervention and the 49 arrests on Saturday).
The Rector of the Foundation emphasized that there was no issue of radiation leakage or ignition and that all safety measures are being followed.
according to him the reactor is kept in a room with a shielded door and an alarm.
“This is a sub-critical nuclear reactor that has been used purely for educational purposes since 1974,” emphasized Mr. Fidas.
“He was found a month and a half ago broken lock door leading to the basement. There was no other violation. There was no leakage nor is there a possibility of leakage, as it is only used for educational reasons”, emphasized Mr. Feidas in agreement with ERT, being reassuring about the incident.
He also emphasized that security measures have been intensified “for precautionary reasons”.
