The Minister of the Interior, Niki Kerameos, spoke on the “TODAY” show of SKAI about the case of the leakage of personal data and how they came into the possession of ND MEP Ms. Asimakopoulou.

Asked about the case and the related investigations, Ms. Kerameos stated that “we had said from the very beginning that we wanted a lot of light to be shed on the case and just two weeks later you heard the government representative communicating the findings of the investigation which did the same the Maximos Palace.”

Regarding the responsibilities arising due to the involvement of persons, the minister replied that “specific actions of specific persons are mentioned there, there was an immediate assumption of responsibility with Ms. Asimakopoulou voluntarily withdrawing from the race, the Secretary General of the ministry, responsible at the time for the elections , resigned and the secretary of Hellenism abroad of the ND also resigned”.

Responding to the opposition’s accusations of her own responsibility, Ms. Kerameos emphasized that “I have nothing to do with this incident. The audit of the Ministry of the Interior continues and concerns more broadly the adequacy of the security of the procedures and in fact from the first day with Mr. Livanio we gave an instruction to carry out a full internal audit on this issue”.

Regarding the issue of postal voting and whether it is related to Ms. Asimakopoulou’s case, the minister explained that “the opposition wants to undermine postal voting, which has nothing to do with it. The complainants say they were registered to vote in the 2023 election and we received an email from Ms Asimakopoulou. In any case, the investigation is ongoing, as is the prosecution’s investigation. The postal list is different and needs to be rewritten and registration for the postal vote is now underway. The complainants themselves say they had registered for the 2023 elections.”

“The issue has nothing to do with the electoral procedures, we are discussing how to protect personal data. To register for the postal vote, register now, it is a new process. How by chance are the opposition parties talking about the postal vote? The matter is being investigated by the authorities,” added the Minister of the Interior.
