This year’s celebratory event for World Meteorology Day will take place at the Athens Armed Forces Officers’ Club
“At the forefront of climate action” is the theme chosen by the World Meteorological Organization for this year’s World Meteorological Day celebration on 23 March.
The choice of the theme “At the forefront of climate action” wants to emphasize the work and also the responsibility that national meteorological and hydrological services have undertaken, in the context of this action.
As Celeste Saulo, the organization’s new general secretary states, in her message, in the context of this year’s celebration, “in the face of unprecedented environmental challenges, we cannot remain simple observers of developments, but we are called to make decisive changes. Our role as scientists and defenders of this planet has never been more critical. The lives of future generations are in our hands. Our efforts today will ensure a safer and healthier world — a world where our children thrive in harmony with nature.”
The World Meteorological Organization with its members around the world, monitor the state of climate and water resources, provide scientific information to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate services to support climate adaptation, while at the same time assisting in the effort of the UN to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The World Meteorological Organization will remain at the forefront of climate action, with partnerships and innovations, making the most of collective expertise, to overcome challenges and achieve our shared vision of a safer and more sustainable world, says relevant announcement of the GEA.
