Greece is in the best position in the EU in terms of drug shortages, said the president of the pharmacies, Theodoros Skylakakis, on the “Today” show of SKAI.

In particular, Mr. Skylakakis, when asked about this, said that “Greece is in the best position in the EU, our country has the fewest shortcomings. There are 9,000 codes licensed in the country, we have production process deficiencies. We have shortages in children’s allergy syrups because there is a lack of the active ingredient, which is amoxicillin, and it is missing worldwide.”

Regarding where the problem lies, he explained that “there is also a problem with some new generation antidiabetic treatments where the problem is that these drugs were made for diabetes and along the way it was discovered that they have other indications as a result of which the manufacturer company to not be able to cover the demand”.

“We cannot say we have shortages and panic the world. In Greece we have medicines 30 to 40 years old that are gradually being discontinued. At the moment we have recorded 100 to 120 deficiencies in 9,000 codes and there are none in widely distributed medicines” concluded Mr. Skylakakis.
