Today it is expected that the Plenary of the Parliament will approve the contract for the supply of seven new Canadair latest generation, type DCH-515with a total cost of approximately 360 million euros.

Five of the aircraft will be acquired through the program SHIELD of the Ministry of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis, which includes actions to strengthen civil protection in our country, and two through the European Union rescEU program of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

“The Canadair procurement is a legacy for the Fire Service, for our fellow citizens, for the country and for generations to come, and it comes in addition to a very ambitious, very, very large and important program, the AEGIS Program worth 2, 1 billion euros. For which I am pleased to announce that based on the timetables we have set and the way we are proceeding by the end of March – beginning of April, it will have been auctioned in its entirety”, emphasized the Minister of Civil Protection and Climate Crisis Vassilis Kikiliasspeaking to the Standing Committee on Production of the Parliament regarding the draft law “Approval of the Draft Contract for the supply of DHC-515 type aircraft”.

The European Union and its member states have agreed with the Canadian government and the manufacturer of Canadair, De Havilland Canada (DHC), for the supply of 24 latest generation Canadairs.

Greece and Spain will purchase the most (7 aircraft each), France will purchase 4 aircraft, while Italy, Portugal and Croatia will purchase 2 aircraft each.

According to the schedule, deliveries of the new Canadairs are expected to be completed by 2030.

During Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ visit to Canada, which will take place in the next few days, the final agreement will be signed – provided it has been ratified by the Greek Parliament.

In addition, it is noted that Greece has sent an official invitation to the manufacturing company, in order to undertake the upgrade of the country’s fleet of CL-415 aircraft, at a cost of 43 million euros.

The supply of the new Canadairs and the negotiation for the upgrade of the CL-415 fleet are part of the actions of the AEGIS equipment program. These include other aerial vehicles, helicopters, amphibious vehicles, watercraft, as well as over 1,000 fire engines.
