“In an era of monumental challenges for the future of the planet, the World Water Day is a unique opportunity to reflect on the decisive role of perhaps the most precious good for a sustainable and safe tomorrow for us and our children”, says the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Lefteris Avgenakis, in a post on his personal account on social media.
As he points out, “water – the source of all life – is the most essential ingredient for the primary sector, economic development and social well-being.
For this reason, drawing up a responsible and modern water resources policy is at the heart of our strategy, looking both at the immediate response to the effects of reckless use and chronic water scarcity phenomena, and at the long-term shielding of the country from emerging challenges related to the climate crisis and the ever-increasing needs for water.
Today, based on the clear will of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, for the first time, our country acquires a national policy on the issue of water resources management.
Starting from Thessaly and progressing to other regions of the country, we are creating unified water management bodies, in order to achieve savings of this valuable asset, but also the necessary anti-flood protection, with breath-taking projects for modern irrigation in the primary sector, utilizing state-of-the-art technologies ».
