The government representative Pavlos Marinakis characterizes an article published by the Kyriaki edition of the newspaper which speaks of “editing” of the audio documents of Tempi as non-existent theories.

In his announcement, Mr. Marinakis states that “in such moments, respect for the truth, honesty in mourning and trust in the independent Justice is required from everyone. Conspiracy theories, poisonous rumors and easy impressions have no place. And in this effort, the media also have a serious responsibility.”

The full announcement by government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis:

Today’s front page publication of the newspaper “To BIMA tis Kyriakis” is a journalistic blemish on its historical course, as it presents conspiracy scenarios surrounding the causes of the tragedy of Tempi, which hurts all Greeks”, says government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis in a statement.

“One would expect a reputable publication not to cultivate non-existent theories of “editing” in order to highlight, supposedly, the role of the human factor in the tragic accident. Because this role is, unfortunately, obvious and has been proven by all the evidence so far. Together, of course, with a series of other aspects, which the justice investigates.

After all, if one reads the report carefully, one realizes that the newspaper itself actually admits not only that there was no attempt at a cover-up, as the misleading title suggests. But that, on the contrary, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations of the Hellenic Police has forwarded all of the audio recordings of the OSE to the investigating authorities so that they can effectively conduct their investigation in search of the truth.

In such moments, respect for the truth, honesty in mourning and trust in independent Justice are required from everyone. Conspiracy theories, poisonous rumors and easy impressions have no place. And in this effort, the media also have a serious responsibility”, concludes the government representative.
