This year, the response of citizens, organizations and businesses from all over the world who participated in “Earth Hour” was “warm” again, sending a resounding message for the protection of our common home, the planet.
According to WWF, the response was similar in our country, where thousands of citizens, but also hundreds of organizations joined their voices, giving a voice to the forests, which, due to the increasing threats they face, were at the center of this year’s campaign in Greece .
In particular, in “Earth Hour 2024”, among others, the Presidency of the Hellenic Republic, the sacred rock of the Acropolis, the Temple of Hephaestus, the monument of Philopappos, the White Tower, the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio, Kallimarmaro participated (Panathinaikos Stadium), the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, as well as dozens of municipalities of the country.
Finally, ERT contributed to the even greater dissemination of the message for the protection of nature this year, by actively participating in “Earth Hour”, through informing its audience, but also by symbolically darkening the facade of the Agia Paraskevi Radio Building.
The protection of forests in our country, at the center of “Earth Hour 2024”
As WWF points out, with fires affecting valuable forest ecosystems throughout the country every year and directly threatening wildlife, but also local communities, this year’s “Earth Hour” in our country focused on forests, the priceless value of forest ecosystems for our lives and the imperative that we all contribute to their protection. In this context, this year’s campaign served as an occasion for citizens to spend an hour to inform, raise awareness and take action!
“Earth Hour” is the largest global participatory campaign for the environment and for the past 18 years it has been a powerful call to action, but also a unique opportunity for millions of citizens and thousands of organizations around the world to join forces to a common goal: the protection of the environment and the further strengthening of man’s relationship with nature.
