The goal is to complete the tender and select the contractor within the year
Competition with the aim of concluding an agreement – framework for the AC submarine cable projects of the interconnections of the Dodecanese and the islands of the North-East Aegean, the ADMIE announces through a competitive dialogue.
The competitive process concerns the selection of contractors for the project: “Study, Supply & Installation of underwater and underground cables in the context of island interconnection projects with the ESMIE”, eight-year duration, with the criterion of awarding the most advantageous offer from a financial point of view.
As stated in a statement, it is the first time that ADMIE has entered into a framework agreement, a practice followed by other European Electricity Transmission Operators.
This process was chosen as the availability of slots in terms of submarine cable production, both in the Greek and international markets, is extremely limited.
Given the large increase in demand due to the many subsea interconnectors being launched or constructed internationally, there is a need for timely engagement of floating media and cable production line.
Furthermore, through the framework agreement, lower prices will be ensured, while there will be savings of time and resources through a competitive process, as opposed to conducting separate tenders.
The interconnection of the Aegean islands with the continental system is a key priority in the new Ten-Year Development Program of the ADMIE 2024-2033. With these connections, their electrical isolation is addressed, the reliability of the power supply increases, the cost of the energy produced and consequently the cost of Public Utility Services (UPS) is reduced. The environment is also protected and the high potential of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) of the non-interconnected islands is utilized. In parallel with the abolition of the “electrical isolation” of the Aegean islands, the size of the country’s electricity market is increasing.
The competition will be held in two phases: the first concerns the selection of entities in which those interested will submit applications for participation and the second phase in which the participants who qualified in the first phase will be invited to submit their offer.
The goal is to complete the tender and select the contractor within the year.
