Citizens can from today declare the loss of their passport through gov.gr, following a Joint Decision (Government Gazette B’ 2117/2024) of the Ministers of Citizen Protection Michalis ChrysochoidisDigital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou and Foreign Giorgos Gerapetritis.

Through a particularly simple procedure, those concerned can submit their declaration electronically without having to visit the Police Service or the Consular Authority in the territorial jurisdiction of which the loss occurred.

The service can be accessed either directly on gov.gr, or in the section “Citizen and everyday life” and the sub-section “Citizen details and identification documents”.

To submit the statement:

  • Citizens log in with their personal TaxisNet passwords or e-Banking codes.
  • They confirm their details and passport details in the application and submit the statement.
  • Upon submission, the statement is sent electronically to the Passport and Security Documents Directorate of the Hellenic Police, which immediately cancels the passport.
  • The statement is simultaneously notified to the Box Office of the Police Service or the Consular Authority in the territorial jurisdiction of which the loss occurred.

Upon completion of the process, citizens are informed by email and SMS. Also, the declaration is sent to the citizen’s personal mailbox on gov.gr and bears the validity characteristics of gov.gr. In particular, it bears a unique code number in alphanumeric format and in QR format and an advanced electronic signature of the Ministry of Digital Governance and is valid when it is circulated both as an electronic document and as a paper.

The planning and development of the service was done by the Hellenic Police, the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance and the National Network of Technology and Research Infrastructures (EDYTE S.A. – GRNET) of the Ministry of Digital Governance. Citizens’ data is collected through the Interoperability Center of the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance of the Ministry of Digital Governance.
