The National Intelligence Service (NIS) is undergoing a major restructuring in order to be able to meet the challenges of conventional and hybrid threats of the modern era.

The new Presidential Decree (P.D. 17/2024) published in the Government Gazette and entered into force on April 4, 2024, foresees significant organizational and operational changes.

In particular, according to sources, with the new P.D. the complete restructuring of the EYP is taking place on the basis of Law 5002/2022, which modernized the institutional framework for the lifting of the confidentiality of communications and established special institutional guarantees, while at the same time the foundations were laid for the reorganization of the EYP.

The changes aim to improve its operational capacity, focusing on the development of new internal structures and the introduction of innovative procedures, with the aim of achieving greater efficiency in dealing with modern threats in the field of National Security.
