According to information, the American vice-president asked the prime minister about the progress of the trial for the murder of the American young Bakari Henderson, which was committed in Zakynthos more than five years ago.
The unfortunate African-American had come to our country for a vacation in 2017, and was found having fun in a bar in the area of ​​Laganas that summer, when he and another friend asked a Serbian guest of the bar to have a drink together.
Before the two young African-Americans could react, they were attacked, according to the indictment, by guests of Serbian descent who were also having fun, with the result that Bakari Henderson, as recorded by a security camera, was tragically killed by lynching, a crime that was beyond of others and purely racist characteristics, a fact which results from the insults of the perpetrators and the violence of the crime.
Only one of the perpetrators was convicted in the first instance for the heinous crime of the African-American in the trial, but the charge of homicide turned into a fatal bodily injury.
Following the conviction, the prosecutor appealed, arguing that the criminal proceedings were not commensurate with the gravity of the crime and remanded the case for retrial.
The trial in the second instance has been suspended and is expected to continue in the Court of Appeal of Patras the day after Wednesday, the 23rd of the month.
According to information, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, personally pledged to the American vice president to monitor the course of the case and to inform about it.
After that, it becomes clear that the dysfunctions of the Greek justice, as a result of many years of pathogenesis that were not treated in a coordinated way, expose our country not only to convictions by the Court of Human Rights but also create a negative atmosphere in international contacts of the political leadership.
