It took the help of a special ELAS negotiator to set her free
A 54-year-old man was “tampered” in his apartment holding in hostage status his 52-year-old partner, when following a complaint about an incident of domestic violence involving the woman, the police arrived outside his house.
In fact, the assistance of a special negotiator from EL.AS was needed. to convince – after three hours – the man to release the woman. The 54-year-old was arrested and referred to stand trial for domestic battery and menacing, as well as illegal detention.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, when the couple returned to the apartment after a night out.
For a trivial reason the couple quarreled, while as the 52-year-old complained, her partner hit her, threatening her life. Fearing that the man will carry out his threats, and as there had been a previous incident of violence against her, the woman called a friend, from whom she asked for help. “Help, he’s killing me, he’s beating me, he broke my ribs”, seems to have been the words that the 52-year-old conveyed to her friend. Wasting no time she called for Immediate Action.
When the Police patrol car arrived at the apartment, the 54-year-old refused to open the door, so a special negotiator of EL.AS was notified. to persuade the accused to release his partner. Indeed, this happened after three hours, when the woman left the house accompanied by police officers. The perpetrator was later arrested when police, in the presence of a judicial officer, entered the house.
The 52-year-old allegedly testified to the police that she does not wish to prosecute him, but only to not approach her again, because she is afraid of him.
She was however granted the “panic button” application which she installed on her mobile phone.
