The Olympic Flame of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games “Paris 2024” was welcomed today, Wednesday, by Piraeus.
The Olympic Flame arrived in a procession of 15 cars of the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), coming from the Peloponnese, with the torch relay starting from Clock Square, on the Miaouli Coast.
The torchbearers from Piraeus, who carried the flame and the Olympic message of peace to central parts of the city, were as follows:
– Yannis Moralis – mayor of Piraeus,
– Ilias Yfantis, veteran international Greek soccer player,
– Stavroula Antonakou, Olympic water polo champion, world champion,
– Alexandra Stamatopoulou, Paralympic swimmer,
– Nikos Gemelos, former federal swimming coach,
– dr. Ekaterini Valassopoulou-Imbert, gynecologist, honorary consul of Greece in Lyon, knight of the national order of the Legion of Honor of the French Republic,
– Athanasios Boutsis, a student from the first to be admitted to a university,
– Sotiris Kakias, vice president of the Piraeus Health Runners Association.
In the forecourt of the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, a welcoming ceremony of the Olympic Flame took place, where the mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis, lit the altar. During the ceremony, the Olympic Anthem, the National Anthem of France and the National Anthem of Greece were played, with the simultaneous raising of the three flags.
