Yesterday, the Olympic Torch Relay took place in Athens, in the rain.
On Friday night, the flame on the altar of the Acropolis was lit by the Olympian Periklis Iakovakis, having received the Light from the swimming champion Andreas Vazaios.

Pericles Iakovakis said, among other things: “It is a unique moment. The beauty of the Acropolis is incredible and the combination of the Olympic Flame being here and me having the privilege to light the altar is unique.”
“From the Acropolis, the most emblematic monument of Greece, the Olympic Flame sends the timeless messages of peace and truce to the entire planet,” the Hellenic Olympic Committee said.
The Torch Relay to the Acropolis for the Olympic Flame 2024 was attended by the Choreographer of the Olympic Flame Ceremonies Artemis Ignatiou and the six-time Olympian Agi Kasoumi.
