THE 41st Marathon Peace March takes place today, Sunday 21/4 starting from the Marathon Tomb at 8 am and ending at 6.30 pm. at the Ministry of National Defense, where there will be a welcome event for the peace walkers.

This year’s March coincides with both the ongoing wars in Gaza and Ukraine and the 25th anniversary of the bombing of Yugoslavia.

Also, this year’s March coincides with the 61st anniversary of the first banned Peace March in 1963, when EDA MP Grigoris Lambrakis, broke the police rule and carried out the Marathon Peace March.

THE Hellenic Committee for International Recession and Peace (EEDYE). in her announcement she states that: “expressing her strong concern about the escalation of the war in the Middle East, she is calling for mass participation in the 41st Marathon Peace March to be a platform for expressing the people’s opposition to all these plans and to the involvement of Greece”

The scenes cut by the Junta from “My Socialist Daughter

Among the famous scenes of the film with Aliki Vougiouklakis, is the participation of “Lisa Deldis” with her long-haired English friend in the Peace March in Marathon, where she finally meets “Giorgos Nikolaidis” (Dimitris Papamichael.

Along the way, the actors held placards with the slogan “Peace-love-friendship” – The junta censors demanded that the scenes with the placards be cut because they reminded of the murdered Lambrakis.

They also cut the scene with the commander of the Pikermio Gendarmerie station, Chronis Exarchakos, trimming his mustache and one in which the gendarme, now with a trimmed mustache, drags Aliki to the underground detention center.

“Now it can circulate freely, since it has no more spikes” the censor writes in his file after cutting the above scenes.

Curiously, the jarring references to Socialism – even in the film’s title – didn’t bother the Colonels.
