1906: It is published in New York’s World newspaper that Charles Olden has built a pocket telephone, which could be considered the forerunner of the cell phone.

1928: The city of Corinth, destroyed by the terrible earthquake of April 22nd, is completely demolished to be rebuilt from scratch.

[1945:Italian anti-fascists capture and execute the founder of the fascist movement Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta Petacci.

1971: Panathinaikos defeats Red Star 3-0 and gets the ticket to Wembley. In the final of the Champions Cup, the greens will know the defeat by Ajax.

1992:The show “Morning Greece” with George Papadakis premieres on ANT1 TV.

1998: The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece elects the Most Reverend Dimitriados Christodoulos, known as Christos Paraskevaidis, as Archbishop of Athens and All Greece.

1906 Kurt Gödel, Austrian mathematician, who formulated one of the most important theorems in modern mathematics, known as Gödel’s Proof, according to which in any formal system of mathematics there must be certain logical uncertainties. (D. 14/1/1978)

1908: Oskar Schindler, German businessman, who saved the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. The story was made famous by Steven Spielberg’s film Schindler’s List. (D. 9/10/1974)

1974:Penelope Cruz, Spanish actress.

1918: Gavrilo Princip, Bosnian Serb student, who lit the fuse of World War I, with the assassination of the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. (Born 13/7/1894)

1986: Spyros Moustaklis, Greek army officer, symbol of the resistance against the junta. (Born 1926)

2005: Odysseas Dimitriadis, leading Greek conductor, who worked mainly in the former Soviet Union. (Born 7/7/1908)
