The impressive thing is that the 39-year-old trafficker has been sentenced to 36 years in prison – He received the immigrants from Magnesia to bring them to Athens, receiving from each of them 1,000 to 2,000 euros
A cinematic chase in the center of Athens happened yesterday morning when police noticed a van driving on Ionias Avenue in Patisia, with fake license plates
The driver did not comply on the instructions of the policemen, he accelerated, maneuvering towards Nikopoleos Street, with the policemen following the car in front from a sufficient safety distance, constantly calling the driver to stop the vehicle using a beacon and sound signals.
The vehicle collided with parked vehicles and the driver attempted to flee on foot but stopped on an adjacent street.
During the check, it was found that the driver was carrying 15 foreigners, 10 adults and 5 minors, of which 6 were women and 9 were men.
Subsequently, they were taken to the headquarters of the Aliens Directorate of Attica and the Immigration Management Department was charged with a preliminary investigation.
A case was filed against the 39-year-old foreign driver, a member of a migrant trafficking ring, for facilitating entry into Greek territory for profit, transporting foreigners inside, forgery and perjury.
As it emerged from the investigation, the 39-year-old picked up the immigrants in the early hours of the same day from his area Prefecture of Magnesiain order to transport them to Athens.
The immigrants for this trafficking paid a sum of money ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 euros each.
The Immigration Management Department, which handled the case, initiated the registration-mapping process for the 15 immigrants, in order to implement their return to their country of origin.
It is noted that the 39-year-old has concerned the authorities for similar crimes as he has been sentenced to 36 years in prison and a fine of 95,500 euros for illegally promoting immigrants to Greece.
The vehicle was seized as a means of illegally transporting immigrants.
The trafficker, with the case filed against him, was taken to the Athens District Attorney.
