In his related letter, ISA talks about the phenomenon of telecourts
The Medical Association of Athens, in a letter sent to the president of the National Radio and Television Council, expresses its strong protest against the “unsolicited public statements and appearances by relatives and others on television channels, by which elite members of the medical community are tried and convicted as they see fit».
In the letter, on the occasion of the Kallianou case, it is pointed out that “unfortunately, this is not the first time that the phenomenon of teletrials has developed before us.
A trial unfolds where everyone, whether they are doctors or not, whether they know the facts and medical data or not, express their opinions on specific incidents. Only administrative bodies and courts are competent to judge».
ISA also emphasizes that “it is the duty of the State to put an end to such phenomena that possibly unnecessarily and anyway – with certainty – without tangible evidence attempt to humiliate doctors who fight the daily battle for the Greek patient and tarnish the prestige of the Greek doctor in general.
This is undoubtedly an issue of outstanding importance that concerns the public interest and concerns the safeguarding of public health. In this context we ask for your immediate actions within the scope of your powers».
