In the roll-call vote on the principle and on the disputed articles for the country’s new judicial charter, and for the powers of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, 158 ND MPs voted yes, while 141 opposition MPs voted no, out of a total of 299 voters.
Yesterday, May 1, 2024, the plenary session of the Parliament passed a bill of the Ministry of Justice entitled “Consolidation of the first degree of jurisdiction, spatial restructuring of the courts of civil and criminal justice and other provisions of the competence of the Ministry of Justice”.
In the roll-call vote on the principle and on the disputed articles for the country’s new judicial charter, and for the powers of the European Prosecutor, 158 ND MPs voted yes, while 141 opposition MPs voted no, out of a total of 299 voters. An exception was article 12, which gathered a majority of 190 MPs (of ND, PASOK and the independent B. Baran), and referred to the “transfer of administrative responsibilities from the heads of civil and criminal courts and prosecutors’ offices to the Court Buildings Financing Fund”.
The roll-call vote for articles 1-14, for the “unification of the first degree of jurisdiction”, had been requested by SYRIZA, PASOK and the KKE. The KKE had also requested that articles 36-39 be put to a roll-call vote on the “procedure for the execution of the European arrest warrant and the regulation of misdemeanors within the jurisdiction of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office”.
Finally, it is noted that “by majority” the amendment of the Ministry of National Economy & Finance, which reduces the commissions for small transactions via POS for specific sectors of the market, was also accepted. Speaking about the matter, the responsible minister K. Hatzidakis said that “the POS interconnection program with the cash registers developed very well, the vast majority of businesses were interconnected and the country will not lose resources from the Recovery Fund, given that the specific project is a milestone for funding from the Fund”.
