Patoulis: We are completing projects that had been stuck for years
In his greeting, the Governor of Attica spoke about an important project “that will strengthen road safety and facilitate the movement of pedestrians and our fellow citizens with mobility problems, in an area congested and dangerous, as there have been many accidents and accidents.” and added that the priority of the administration is to complete projects that had been stuck in the “papers” for years.
“Accelerating procedures and securing the necessary resources, our goal is to deliver to the citizens of Attica infrastructure that provides solutions to chronic problems and protects the safety of citizens. “Attica is passing into a new era, into that of the future,” he said characteristically.
He then stated that the goal is to deliver to the public as soon as possible the other three pedestrian bridges that have been included in the specific program, those that are at the junction of Kifissia with Panormos, but also in the two more in the area of Haidari, Provata Schools and at Palataki on Athens Avenue.
“With our work, we are moving forward with steady steps to create a modern, functional and safe road network – a key priority from the first moment we took over the administration,” he said, adding: the road network that belongs to the competence of the Region, with an extensive program of tens of kilometers of new asphalt paving, delineation and arrangement of islands at points of high traffic load or in areas where not the slightest work of road network improvement had taken place – not only in remote municipalities but even in the center of Athens, with the most recent example being the streets around Syntagma Square, where something similar had not been done for more than two decades “.
At the same time, as he underlined, the key project for the re-laying and improvement of the Old National Road Athens – Thebes is being completed, within the framework of the relevant program financed through the Attica Regional Development Plan with a budget of 24.5 million euros.
Also in progress are energy saving interventions in the lighting of the roads of Attica, amounting to 33 million euros, which includes the replacement of 22,000 luminaires by new led technology, the Center for Traffic Control and Management has been modernized, while beyond
from the pedestrian bridges, smart crossings were created, friendly to people with mobility and vision problems, underground pedestrian crossings in main boulevards were beautified, traffic lights were renewed, projects with visible results.
The budget of the new Attica RDP for road safety projects is at 50 million euros “
“The total budget of road safety interventions, as reflected in the text of the new Attica RDP 2021-2027, exceeds € 50 million” underlined the Regional Governor and added: “It is our firm will to be next to all municipal authorities, in every neighborhood of Attica, but also in direct cooperation with the government and the competent bodies, in order to ensure to the citizens a better quality of life, without exclusions and exceptions “.
Concluding his speech, Mr. Patoulis warmly thanked and congratulated the competent Services of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the managing authority of the Region and the Contractor of the project, for its successful completion and delivery to the citizens of Agia Paraskevi and the Northern Sector in general.
The Undersecretary Transport and Infrastructure G. Karagiannis pointed out the following, among others:
“It is a special pleasure to be here with you today as another footbridge is handed over for use, this time on Mesogeion Avenue, in the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi.
This is a functional and useful project for the residents, which offers safety and comfort in their movement. In short, it is a substantial but mainly necessary project, and certainly a beautiful promotion project, which was constructed by the Ministry of Infrastructure with funding from the Attica Region to serve hundreds of citizens every day. At the same time, the project is a typical example of the very good cooperation that the ministry has with the Attica region and the Regional Governor George Patoulis, whom I want to thank, because together we overcame many pathogens and we arrived here today.
The footbridge was built in an area with high traffic load and high expectations, which made the project technically demanding but also important, since serious safety issues are raised for pedestrians.
At the Ministry of Infrastructure with Costas Karamanlis we are implementing a large project plan of over 13 billion. that will change the image of infrastructure in the country. At the same time, however, we consider it important to intervene and implement smaller projects, of high added value for society. These footbridges are landmarks and works of substantial intervention in the daily life of citizens.
It is a real joy to see projects completed and delivered back to the society to which they belong “.
The Minister of Education N. Kerameos stressed, among other things:
“It is a great joy and emotion that we are here today and we are launching a breath-taking project for the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi, which will improve the daily life of the citizens and will contribute to the facilitation of the daily movement of people with disabilities. I would like to congratulate the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport that auctioned and executed the project, as well as the Region that we decisively contributed to in this and other important projects for Attica. It is very important to invest in raising public awareness and education on road safety issues and in this direction is our initiative to introduce the road safety course in schools.
On his part, the Mayor Ag. Friday V. Zorbas stressed:
The Municipality of Ag. On Friday, this pedestrian bridge had been requested since 2013, as unfortunately three people have been killed at this point. I would like to thank the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, but also the Attica Region and personally the Regional Governor G. Patoulis, on behalf of all citizens for this very important project but also for all the many and important projects of many millions of euros, such as the town hall , the kindergarten, the rainwater management projects implemented by the Region in the Municipality of Agia Paraskevi.
