Russian President Vladimir Putin heightened tension over Ukraine’s security crisis on Monday by recognizing the independence of two separatist republics in the neighboring country. He even announced the deployment of troops to the regions.

The US and European countries responded immediately, announcing sanctions against Russia. On Tuesday, Putin postponed the deployment of troops, saying he was ready to negotiate.

In this episode of Café da Manhã, the reporter from sheet Igor Gielow, who is in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, near the Ukrainian border, describes the climate at the heart of the security crisis, analyzes Putin’s latest moves and talks about the chances of war in the region.
