A total sentence of 23 years (with 20 suspended) was imposed by the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki on a 50-year-old who was accused of lewd acts at the expense of his 10-year-old niece.

The court found him guilty of repeated rape (committed and attempted), sexual acts with a minor (under 12 years old) and sexual indecency with a minor victim, without recognizing any mitigating circumstances.

After the court’s verdict, the 50-year-old returned to prison.

In his apology, the 50-year-old denied all the accusations, stressing that he was never alone with his niece, while he called the complaint “vindictive” because he had revealed a secret about the child to her mother.

According to the indictment, the acts were committed in 2021 in an area outside of Thessaloniki.

There had been a complaint by the parents of the (then) 10-year-old patient, to whom the child spoke.

The case file includes messages of inappropriate content that the 50-year-old exchanged with his niece, as well as the girl’s complaints about his sexual abuse by his uncle.

In her sentence, the district attorney requested the defendant’s guilt and, commenting on the psychiatric expert report to which the minor was submitted, stated that the sufferer “had no reason to lie […] and conveyed details of what was happening.”

However, testifying as witnesses in court, the parents of the minor changed their initial complaints, withdrawing their content
