EL.AS proceeded with two arrests. in the center of Thessaloniki.

In view of PAOK’s football match with Aris, it is recalled that measures have been announced to ban gatherings and the Police forces are on foot.

The plan includes reinforced MAT platoons from all prefectures of N. Greece, OPKE, groups of bicyclists. Also, the water jet vehicle, “Aura”, will be on alert, while drones will check various parts of the city from the air.

The goal of EL.AS. is that the fans of the two teams should not meet at all before or after the derby.

The announcement of the Hellenic Police

“It is announced that by decision of the Director of the Thessaloniki Police Department, public outdoor gatherings and any kind of possible marches are prohibited from 08:00 on 05/19/2024 to 20:00 on 05/19/2024 in the following areas:

-In the area bounded by the streets: Agnostou Stratiotou-Ag. Dimitriou – Macedonian Defense – Olympus – El. Venizelou – L. Nikis – Karolou Dil-Kastritsiou – Matr. Gennadiou – Filippou – Agnostou Stratiotou
-In the area bounded by the streets: Armenopoulou-Nik. Sklavou – Iasonidou- Egnatia- Palaion Patras Germanou- Tsimiski – Kouskoura – Vogatsikou – L. Nikis-30th October-L. Alexandrou the Great-M. Botsari-Al. Papanastasiou-L. Con. Karamanli-Egnatia-National Defense-Armenopoulou,
– In the square-monument of L. Pyrgos and the adjacent square of the statues of M. Alexandrou and K. Karamanlis, in the entire area bounded by L. Nikis-30is Oktovriou – M. Alexandrou and
-On the entire beach pavement surrounded by the streets Nikis St. – 30th of October – St. Alexandrou St. up to the point where St. Alexandrou St. intersects with M. Botsari St. (Article 7 of Law 4703/2020 & article 8 p.d/tos 73/2020),

since, given the factors and other circumstances that make up the specific case, the realization of a gathering-march a) poses a serious risk to public safety due to the possible commission of serious crimes, in particular against life, physical integrity, property and the state authority and b) the disruption of socio-economic life, vehicular and pedestrian traffic and the operation of infrastructure and public facilities in the specific areas is seriously threatened».
