Stamatis Krimizis is perhaps the most important in life Greek scientist in the field of space research. Born in Chios in 1938, he immigrated to the United States where he deleted an impressive course in NASA, reaching – and leading – in some of humanity’s most iconic space missions.

Krimizis was head of the Applied Physics Laboratory department at Johns Hopkins University, and has been honored with a multitude of international discrimination for his work.

In 2019, he resigned as president of the Greek Space Organization, expressing concerns about the independence and operation of the body, a move that caused a strong public dialogue.

It continues to inspire new generations of scientists, maintaining strong links with Greece and supporting efforts to strengthen research and technology in our country.

From the courtyards of Vrontados in the vastness of the universe, Dr. Stamatis Krimizis never stopped looking up. Originally from Chios, the award -winning academic and space scientist, who participated in almost all NASA missions to the planets of our solar system, returns to his favorite places, recalling memories of his childhood and narrating his most exciting moments.

Dr. Krimizis guides us through the show “Where there is Greece” with genuine emotion in the straits of Vrontados, where his passion for knowledge was born. He remembers the summers of relaxation, the school, the teachers who inspired him, and the moment he decided he wanted to reach the horizon – literally.

Today, with a career full of historical successes, such as the Voyager mission that first recorded the exit of a human construction from our solar system, the Chioti scientist does not miss an opportunity to talk about his homeland. For Vrontado who always carries with him. And for the universe that – as he says – “is closer than we think, when we believe in ourselves.”
