The 7 arrested tax officials of the DOU of Chalkida and the two individuals who were arrested by the Internal Affairs service are being brought before the investigator today, Friday, to apologize for the serious charges of forming a criminal organization they are facing.

They are the 50-year-old Head of Chalkida Secondary School, the 52-year-old Vice-Director, three employees aged 67, 54 and 50, a 56-year-old woman who had the role of administrator as well as a 62-year-old accountant.

The case file also includes an employee of the tax office, four accountants and a private individual who were not arrested as the statute of limitations had passed.

The members of the ring demanded large sums of money for tax breaks.

What did the principal claim?

The head of the tax office, who is described as the head of the criminal organization, allegedly told the police officers: “before I even took my position as head of the D.O.Y. Chalkida in September 2023, I knew that there were officials who received illegal sums of money for providing tax “facilities” to companies.

When I assumed the position of Head, I was approached by …. (gave the name of the 67-year-old employee who was arrested) and … (gave the name of the 56-year-old clerk who was also arrested), stating that the way they have been acting for so many years, everyone is satisfied and I could have extra income to help my own needs, persuading me to participate as a Supervisor in the illegal actions.”

In the meantime, revealing conversations, and a notebook, which probably belongs to the head of the DOU, and which contains names, dates and sums of money, testify to the action of the ring.

The tax officials are also “burned” by the testimony of a businessman, a victim of the ring, who was arrested while driving, with the bag in his hand.
