In the dismantling of a criminal organization whose members were active in production and trafficking in Greece and abroad,unhealthy anabolic substances and other pharmaceuticals, the Directorate of Economic Police proceeded.
Two arrests were made, one of which is owner of a well-known restaurant in Glyfadawho is also a chemist and had knowledge of making anabolic preparations.
According to the report of Theodosis Panos in , the anabolics were supplied by dozens of athletes whose names are being investigated by the police.
In order to dismantle the organization, a coordinated police operation was carried out, in the morning hours of Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in areas of Attica, during which 2 people were arrested, accused of – as the case may be – criminal organization, violation of sports legislation, forgery, harmful drugs and theft, while two more people are included in the case file.
It was preceded by a multi-month investigation, with the assistance of Europol, the National Medicines Agency and the National Anti-Doping Agency, in the context of which the existence of a criminal organization emerged, the members of which, at least since 2019, were active in the manufacture and supply of prohibited anabolic substances to athletes, professional or non-professional, in order to improve their athletic performance.
From the utilization and analysis of the evidence of the case it emerged that:
- operated a fully equipped laboratory for the production of pharmaceutical preparations, as well as an appropriately designed packaging area, in the home of the leading member.
- they counterfeited pharmaceutical products of branded companies, using all the necessary materials in order to appear genuine (holograms, instruction sheets and EOF authenticity tapes).
- also had for sale illegal preparations to treat side effects (erectile dysfunction, etc.)
- the supply of equipment and raw materials was carried out from countries in Europe and Asia,
- the trafficking of illegal preparations was carried out inside the country but also abroad, through two websites they maintained.
In searches carried out in homes, businesses and vehicles, among others, the following were found and seized:
- complete pharmaceutical production and packaging equipment, more than 380,000 tablets-ampoules that contained anabolic and other illegal pharmaceutical substances,
- more than 104-kg of raw material,
- a variety of packaging materials (boxes, ampoules, plastic packaging, instruction sheets, holograms, labels, etc.) and
- 2,630- euros.
In addition, searches of the lead member’s home revealed special equipment used to mine cryptocurrency, which was powered by power theft.
The estimated illegal financial benefit that they would obtain from the sale of the confiscated items is estimated to exceed 2,500,000-euro.
Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority and referred to an Investigator.
