Donation of 5,000 euros from the Board of Directors in his memory, to the institution or organization chosen by the family of the deceased
It is with deep sadness that the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Banking Union bids farewell to Georgios Provopoulos and expresses its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
In the announcement of EET it is stated:
“Georgios Provopoulos served with exemplary dedication and efficiency the national economy, but also its banking system itself.
His solid financial knowledge, his considerable experience in public finance, and his fruitful tenure in senior management positions in the private banking industry, were the resources that allowed him to shoulder and manage with complete success the effects of the severe fiscal debt crisis in Greek banking system, during his term as Governor of the Bank of Greece (2008-2014).
During the difficult years of the crisis, George Provopoulos ensured the necessary liquidity and stability for the Greek Economy and its banking system in the Eurozone, and worked hard to help the Greek banking system cope with the shocks at the time. The deceased leaves a great void in the modern economic history of the place.
The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Banking Union will deposit a donation of 5,000 euros in memory of the deceased, to the body or organization chosen by his family”.
