Shocked, the residents of Arvi are collecting money for the boy’s funeral to take place in Albania….
Heavy it is the veil of mourning that has covered her local community Arbes to Municipality of Viannos, after the tragic death of a seven-year-old boy – little Nikolas – at sea.
According to information from ekriti.gr, the boy’s mother testified at the Viannos police station that she was at home with the 7-year-old and the family’s baby, when she suddenly lost sight of him.
He immediately went out and looked for him however in the 10 minutes that passed, the damage had already been done since the child had gone into the sea, as he said.
The woman was arrested but released on the order of the Prosecutor.
The family’s wish is for little Nikolas to be buried in his home country of Albania, however the transportation costs are high and for this reason the villagers will try to collect money in case the funeral is decided to take place in Albania.
However, the same information states that any decision will be made after Tuesday as the autopsy will be done on Monday and the body of the small child will be able to be transported from Tuesday onwards.
The little boy was especially loved in the village and everyone had good things to say. The director of the Arvi Primary School, Giorgos Koutentakis, where the unfortunate child studied, cannot believe the evil that happened and as he said, he cannot imagine that on Monday the school will open without little Nikolas.
The Arvi Cultural Beautification Association states in its announcement:
“The Board of Directors of the Cultural Education Beautification Association of Arvi, after the tragic event that happened in our village, held an emergency meeting and decided the following:
1. To express deep and sincere condolences to his family
2. To cover the costs of the child’s transportation and funeral in his homeland, if the family decides to do so.
In this context, in collaboration with the association of parents and guardians of the Kindergarten and Primary school of Arvi, the teachers’ association of the school and the Parish of Arvi, will carry out a fundraiser tomorrow Sunday 2/7 from 6 in the village.
Niko, we will remember you with love…”
